Dog Talk: Lessons Learned from a Life with Dogs
Dog Talk: Lessons Learned from a Life with Dogs
Author: Harrison Forbes
Binding: Hardcover
Price: $7.25

DOG TALK chronicles Harrison Forbes's life with dogs, from the first bond he formed as a boy with a Belgian Tervuren named Sabina, to the story of Lex, a police dog who attacked his owner’s wife, and was redeemed by Harrison’s intense love and respect for the breed.  Forbes also offers practical aspects of understanding and dealing with whatever type of dog the reader may have.  In DOG TALK, the pet owner will find fascinating insights into behavioral problems, as each chapter addresses a different situation or issue.

Here are some of Harrison's trademark insights into dog behavior and training:

*Energy management is the basis of behavior management : unwanted or aggressive behavior, is often the result of pent-up, frustrated energy

*Dog behavior should always be taken in context; a dog that is housetrained in its home isn't necessarily so everywhere else<

The Dog Trainer's Resource: The APDT Chronicle of the Dog Collection
The Dog Trainer's Resource: The APDT Chronicle of the Dog Collection
Author:
Binding: Paperback
Price: $15.52
This book is titled as being for "dog trainers" but is actually geared toward people who are instructing others in dog training. Some good articles, especially one by Jodi Binstead on Bach's ideas on how breeders should raise puppies. Also some good articles on shelter dogs by Sue Sternburg, but her books are more up to date and thorough. If you have a business you may find this book of use, otherwise your money is probably better spent elsewhere -- though there is that excellent acticle on puppies to consider.

A surprising book, dismissing common believes and assumptions, and leaving the reader with simple sound explanations. A book for all students of animal behavior wishing to uncover the whys and hows of canine social behavior.

‘The idea of dominance-aggression is biased. It is possible to be aggressive and dominant, but the term suggests the dog attacks because it is dominant. No dog attacks because of dominance. Dominance aims at controlling another by means of ritualized behavior, without harming or injuring it. The final attack if there
