Positive Perspectives: Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog Author: Pat B. Miller Binding: Paperback Price: $12.47 I found that this book had excellent information but seemed more suitable for training adult dogs. I was hoping for more detailed information on puppies. While the book offers information on puppy training issues, it does not go into great detail on their development, specific challenges to expect at different puppy stages, etc. While it is an excellent resource, I also ordered "My Smart Puppy: Fun, Effective and Easy Puppy Training" by Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson, which I found to have much more detailed information specific to puppies.
| Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training, Vol. 3: Procedures and Protocols Author: Steven R Lindsay Binding: Hardcover Price: $79.88 The Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training series provides a coherent and integrated approach to understanding and controlling dog behavior. In Volume 3, various themes introduced in Volumes 1 and 2 are expanded upon, especially causally significant social, biological, and behavioral influences that impact on the etiology of behavior problems and their treatment. Ethological observations, relevant behavioral and neurobiological research, and dog behavior clinical findings are reviewed and critiqued in detail. Many of the training concepts, procedures, and protocols described have not been previously published, making this book a unique contribution to dog behavior and training literature.
| The Pit Bull Placebo: The Media, Myths and Politics of Canine Aggression Author: Karen Delise Binding: Paperback Price: $24.95 First it was the Bloodhound, sensationalized in the dramatizations of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Then it was the Doberman, symbol of the Nazi menace. Today, it is the Pit bull that is vilified for the depravity of his masters. Today, police chase down fleeing Pit bulls in the street, firing dozens of wild shots in response to media-fed rumors of supernatural Pit bull abilities. Politicians coach and nurture this fear with their own brand of rhetoric used to assist in the passing of quick and ineffective legislation created to pacify communities ignorant of the real cause for dog attacks. Hundreds of animal shelters throughout the country kill all unclaimed Pit bull-looking dogs, as they are deemed "unadoptable" solely on their physical appearance. This has occurred because the human/dog bond, the most complex and profound inter-species relationship in the history of mankind, has been reduc

| Aggression in Dogs: Practical Management, Prevention & Behaviour Modification Author: Brenda Aloff Binding: Paperback Price: $31.32 Just a bit too much info for me. I didn't want a Master's Degree, just some "practical" info on how to decrease dog aggression one dog toward another. Seems overwhelming and way too detailed; had to read so much to get up-to-speed on the jargon. Maybe I'm too lazy
