Dogs are from Neptune
Dogs are from Neptune
Author: Jean Donaldson
Binding: Paperback
Price: $14.95
The new wave of excluding aversives and training with positive reinforcement is rapidly proving itself to not only be the method of choice for adding behavior, but now, as evidenced by trainers like Jean Donaldson, the method of choice for getting rid of behavior, especially emotionally charged behavior like aggression. If you are of the school of thought that "treats are fine for training tricks but I have a dog that bites," you owe yourself a serious study of the techniques and theory in "Dogs Are From Neptune".

Nowhere else is the case made more strongly for positive reinforcement training for the resolution of serious problems, not simply from the standpoint of dog and handler-friendliness, but from that of efficacy and deep, permanent change.

"Dogs Are From Neptune" draws from real cases to provide clear, step-by-step advice for troubleshooting problems from

Positive Perspectives: Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog
Positive Perspectives: Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog
Author: Pat B. Miller
Binding: Paperback
Price: $10.99
I found that this book had excellent information but seemed more suitable for training adult dogs. I was hoping for more detailed information on puppies. While the book offers information on puppy training issues, it does not go into great detail on their development, specific challenges to expect at different puppy stages, etc. While it is an excellent resource, I also ordered "My Smart Puppy: Fun, Effective and Easy Puppy Training" by Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson, which I found to have much more detailed information specific to puppies.

Aggression in Dogs: Practical Management, Prevention & Behaviour Modification
Aggression in Dogs: Practical Management, Prevention & Behaviour Modification
Author: Brenda Aloff
Binding: Paperback
Price: $31.32
Just a bit too much info for me. I didn't want a Master's Degree, just some "practical" info on how to decrease dog aggression one dog toward another. Seems overwhelming and way too detailed; had to read so much to get up-to-speed on the jargon. Maybe I'm too lazy

Author:
Binding: Paperback
Price: $18.81
Wolves are some of the world's most charismatic and controversial animals, capturing the imaginations of their friends and foes alike. Highly intelligent and adaptable, they hunt and play together in close-knit packs, sometimes roaming over hundreds of square miles in search of food. Once teetering on the brink of extinction across much of the United States and Europe, wolves have made a tremendous comeback in recent years, thanks to legal protection, changing human attitudes, and efforts to reintroduce them to suitable habitats in North America.

As wolf populations have rebounded, scientific studies of them have also flourished. But there hasn't been a systematic, comprehensive overview of wolf biology since 1970. In Wolves, many of the world's leading wolf experts provide state-of-the-art coverage of just about everything you could want to know about these fascinatin
